Today, abdominoplasty is one of the most demanded cosmetic surgeries by men and women with flaccidity. Find out in this article the most frequently asked questions and answers about abdominoplasty surgery.
Over the years, the belly loses elasticity, muscle tone and, at the same time, flaccidity and fat accumulation increase. A sedentary life, pregnancy, and significant weight gain or loss are circumstances that cause excess fat and a relaxation of the skin of the abdomen, as well as an alteration of the abdominal musculature.
For this reason, thanks to abdominoplasty, a flat stomach can be recovered again. We tell you here the answers to the most frequent questions that our patients ask us:
What is tummy tuck?
This is a surgery that is performed to remove excess skin and fat in the abdomen in its mid-lower area, in addition to tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall. First, extensive liposuction is performed to remove localized fat. After this, a horizontal incision is made in the lower abdominal area, just above the pubis, in order to access the abdominal muscles and thus be able to strengthen them. Next, the abdominal muscles will be returned to their original position and finally the skin will be stretched and the excess part will be removed.
Does abdominoplasty leave a scar?
The incisions for this surgery are made in the lower abdomen, near the pubis, so the remaining scar can be hidden under underwear.
How long does the surgery last?
The duration of the abdominoplasty depends on each case, usually it lasts between two hours and four hours.
What risks are there in this operation?
Like all surgery, abdominoplasty has its risks during the intervention. Once it has finished, infections or venous thrombi may appear in the postoperative period, although this happens very rarely.
What requirements must the patient meet?
Each patient will need to undergo a prior study that will verify suitability for surgery. In any case, abdominoplasty is recommended to all women and men who are concerned about the accumulation of fat or excess skin, which cannot be reduced by diet or physical exercise.
If you want to get pregnant can you undergo a tummy tuck?
Abdominoplasty is not recommended for women who want to become pregnant, since the intervention tenses the vertical muscles of the abdomen and during pregnancy they relax and dilate. This intervention is also not indicated for people with obesity, since it is first necessary for them to lose significant weight and, later, undergo the operation to remove excess skin.
How is the recovery?
After tummy tuck surgery, drainage tubes will be left in place for the next 48 hours. Most patients experience bruising in addition to swelling, but these symptoms will subside within a few weeks. In general, after two weeks of recovery, you can return to normal life, always trying to avoid lifting heavy objects, doing strenuous physical work for at least six to eight weeks.
