Breast augmentation, also known as mammoplasty, is a procedure designed to increase the size of the breasts. There are many reasons why a woman may want a breast augmentation.
Some of these reasons may include that you feel your body is out of proportion, that you don't feel feminine enough, or that your breasts are not symmetrical. Other times, women need breast reconstruction surgery to recreate breasts after a mastectomy or lumpectomy.
Our outstanding specialist, the Dr. Daniel Rodriguez Morales de los Ríos handles two methods to increase the size of the breasts:
- Breast implants. We are leaders in breast augmentation interventions in the Canary Islands. In addition to the extensive experience of our team, led by plastic surgeon Dr. de los Ríos, we offer you the best option on the market: German Polytech implants. Each prosthesis goes through stringent quality control and undergoes strict testing.
- Fat transfer. A fat transfer collects fat from another part of the body and then injects it into the breasts to add volume. Fat transfers are attractive because they use organic material from the patient's own body. However, the results are much more subtle and will not be as drastic as the results offered by the other method, implants.
What is mammoplasty with implants?
Implants allow for amazing results. The implants come in a silicone or saline composition. An incision is made at one of four locations and the implant is inserted into the created breast pocket. The results are immediate and long-lasting. However, it is important that women hoping to undergo breast augmentation understand that augmentation does not correct ptosis or significant sagging of the breasts. Often, a breast augmentation is performed in conjunction with a lift to provide more complete results.
And depending on this... It depends on the technique used by our specialist.
What are the techniques that are contemplated for breast augmentation?
To insert the implant, the Dr. Daniel Rodriguez Morales an incision will be made in one of three places. The location will be determined by a number of factors, including the characteristics and preference of the patient and the type of implant being placed. The inframammary fold and periareolar incisions tend to be the most popular options.
- Inframammary (submammary) folding incision
This is a horizontal incision that follows the natural crease under the breast, where it folds against the ribcage. Some of the benefits of this incision point is that it gives the doctor great control in placing the implant in front of or behind the muscle, and the resulting scar is naturally hidden.
-Periareolar (areolar) incision
The periareolar incision is made around the areola, where the darker skin of the areola meets the lighter skin of the chest. This incision also gives the doctor a lot of control and leaves a barely noticeable scar.
-Transaxillary (axillary) incision
A transaxillary incision is made in the crease of the armpit. A channel is created through which to transport the implant to the breast pocket. This technique is typically used with saline implants as they can be inserted prior to filling with saline and therefore will not require a very large incision. Women like this incision placement because there are no noticeable scars on the chest. In addition, there is very little risk that the incision will have any effect on the mammary gland or a woman's future ability to breastfeed. However, if the patient needs a replacement implant in the future, a new incision will be necessary and it is not possible to reuse a transaxillary incision location.
The type of incision implemented by our specialist will depend to a large extent on the individual characteristics and expectations of each patient.
